The winners in the 2006 LOWA Youth Outdoor Journalism Contest are listed below. This important youth literacy project is produced and judged each year by the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association. It is designed to improve communications skills describing outdoor activities by interested youth.
The contest was sponsored again this year by the Baton Rouge ADVOCATE Educational Services Department, the Central Louisiana Chapter of Safari Clubs International, and the Louisiana Chapter of Safari Clubs International.
Each student received a certificate listing their achievement.
Monetary prizes were awarded for First ($150.00), Second ($100.00), and Third ($50.00) in Senior Essay (14-18 YOA), Junior Essay (9-13 YOA), and Photography (18 and under YOA). Honorable Mentions received a certificate, but no cash prize.
In addition, the winning entries are published in various publications, on prominent outdoor websites, and in the SCI newsletters.
The prizes and certificates were awarded by representatives of the two Safari Clubs International at the annual LOWA conference awards banquet held Saturday, August 19, 2006 in St. Francisville, Louisiana.
The contest was marketed and promoted by The Advocate Educational Services.
